The Black Lagoon Review Is Now Available
The Black Lagoon review is now available in the Anime Reviews section and here.
I always enjoy watching Black Lagoon because it is a very rewarding series. It wasn’t made in a hurry, nor was it made to make quick money from related goods. It was made to be a blast – something accessible that everyone can enjoy and appreciate.
Usually I do a little trivia section here. This time around I decided to do a “mildly related trivia”. That is, a trivia related to Black Lagoon but not entirely what you’d expect to find here. And it goes as follows:
- It’s impossible to find a good looking image of Black Lagoon on the net. They all look terrible or super-plain.
- Roanapur – the fictional city in which most of the show takes place – is depicted in such a believable manner that there are records of people on the net asking where it really is located.
- Someone made a Grand Theft Auto themed Black Lagoon wallpaper!
- Black Lagoon is one of the only series from the 90s era that had an English language advisor. And that language advisor happened to be Dan Kanemitsu (aka Danny Choo).
- A real, functioning replica of Revi’s Sword Cutlass can be bought in the U.S. It is a Black Lagoon themed M9 gun and buying one is the ultimate fan-tribute one can make to Black Lagoon (after buying the actual show of course).
The Only Vivid Things In Vividred Operation Are The Colors
Do not be confused by its rainbow-inspiring name – Vividred Operation is a grey magical girls show that tries to mimicking its predecessors but does a lousy job. Continue reading
How Episode 12 Completely Shuffled Psycho-Pass
How can a series with an unpromising plot improve? By returning back to the past and developing one of the characters that up to this moment remained in the sidelines. Episode 12 of Psycho-Pass does just that by telling Kunizuka Yayoi’s personal story. As it turns out her story is arguably the best piece shown in the series so far. But there’s a problem: Yayoi’s emotional past and strong personality completely overshadows Akane, leaving some question marks hanging in the air. Continue reading
The Petite Princess Yucie DVD Review Is Now Available
The Petite Princess Yucie DVD review is now in the anime reviews section and here.
Petite Princess Yucie is arguably one of the less known series produced by studio Gainax. Gainax has a habit of building on earlier creations and heavily referencing them in later shows (Neon Genesis Evangelion referenced in Abenobashi, FLCL referenced in Panty and Stockings etc.). However Petite Princess Yucie is one title that seems to be out of this “creative loop”. It is a subtle and lighthearted series, which sometimes lead me to believe Gainax created it at a time when the staff was already tired from big or serious titles and wanted to unwind a bit with a simple tale that would bring a smile to their faces.
Anime Reviews’ 2013 Anime Predictions
In the beginning of each new year I like to play a little game in which I predict how the upcoming anime year will unfold. A new year brings new predictions and I’m here yet again to share some of mine. But this time around if you happen to have an anime blog of your own you can also take part! Continue reading
