Nendoroid Black Rock Shooter: TV ANIMATION Ver. Is Hooded Up And Ready For Action
Good Smile Company’s Nendoroid Black Rock Shooter: TV ANIMATION Ver. has the best hoody around. It also comes with some badass weapons that put other Nendoroid figures to shame. Hop in to read the full review and help yourself to some colorful macaroons.
Nendoroid Black Rock Shooter: TV ANIMATION Ver. is the second Nendoroid of BRS to come out from Good Smile Company. GSC already released a Nendoroid Black Rock Shooter in August 2010 following the BRS OVA. Let me start by saying that the new Nendoroid outshines the older one in almost every possible way. I mean, just compare the two. It’s that obvious:
Old
New
Overwhelming isn’t it? And yes, I know the old BRS Nendoroid is modeled after a different BRS sketch and some might prefer the softer OVA version. But TV Animation BRS just looks badass and comes with more bang(s) for your buck. She comes with three weapons: the Black Blade, the Black Rock Cannon and a gatling gun.
You can position BRS in the middle of a jump, aiming her cannon mid-air, but the included extra plastic arm kind of makes the whole thing look messy and ugly. Too many distracting bolts.
I should note that to some degree her cannon can be used without the extra arm. The Black Rock Cannon comes closed but can be unfolded.
It has a metallic look, which is nice. I think it looks less attractive when it is wide open like this, but it does have one unconventional use when in this form.
Black Rock Seater! The cannon can support BRS on its own weight-wise but since she’s a Nendoroid her head is too heavy and needs an arm to hold it from falling backwards (the faceplate is from the older BRS Nendoroid BTW). One nice feature is the ability to equip the cannon and sword at the same time.
This is a good opportunity to address her awesome hoody, which is in fact a separate head. The expression of the hooded faceplate is more or less the same as the regular one.
The gatling gun can stand on its own, but obviously cannot be used in mid-air. As you can see BRS is ready for any stray macaroon that might fly her way. This is my favorite position
Aside from these cool weapons BRS comes with the usual assortment of replaceable arms. Her blue flame is also an add-on that can be added or removed. I have only two real issues with this figure. The first one is the extra support arm I mentioned above. The second is how BRS’s hair looks from behind:
Good Smile Company didn’t bother to paint the pigtail ball joints, which is a pity because the ball joints clearly pop out. This could have been easily addressed with some dark-blue paint.
Other than that this is a nice figure indeed. Funny enough even though this Nendoroid is a deformed version of Black Rock Shooter it still still looks more cool than cute. You can get your Nendoroid Black Rock Shooter : TV ANIMATION Ver. here or here.
